You have decided that your property would either function or look better if it had a fence of some sort, so you reach out to a fencing contractor for assistance. They offer to provide you with a free estimate of the fencing project, but what does this actually mean. In general terms, an estimate is meant to give you an idea of the price of the project, but a lot of other things may be discussed. Here is a look at the information that will likely be discussed when the contractor comes to your property to give you an estimate.

Different fencing options will be discussed.

There is a multitude of different fencing materials out there to choose from, and every one of them will have their drawbacks and advantages for your property or situation. For example, chain link fencing is a popular option for its durability but can be a little more costly than say a basic wooden fence. If you do not already know that you want a specific fence style, the contractor will go over your options with you. In some cases, the contractor will even bring sample sections of fencing along for the estimate just to give you an idea what different fence types would look like if they were in place on your property.

The placement of the fence will be discussed.

When you get an estimate to have a fence installed, the contractor will visit your property and discuss where you want the fence to be installed. For example, if you only one your front yard enclosed, backyard enclosed, or your entire property enclosed are a few questions that will be asked. In addition to placement, the contractor will discuss things like if you want a gate included for an access point and other things of that nature.

The prices associated with your options will be discussed.

The overall goal of an estimate is to get the price of the project so that you know if it is something that you would like to have done. Therefore, you will naturally be given prices during your estimate consultation. If you already know what kind of fence you want, you will be given a price for the whole project of using that fencing material to erect the fence on your property. If you have a few different fencing options you are considering, the contractor will go over the prices of the different materials.
